Realism is my style, but my realism explores abstract forms rather than narrative content. I paint people realistically because people attract the viewer. Beneath the surface realism, though, I am exploring geometric forms: playing squares against circles and embedding round faces into angular cityscapes. The city with its grids, insets, vanishing lines and eccentric perspectives, contrasts dramatically with the human figure, with its arcs and curves.
As for my brushwork, I pursue a lustrous stateliness. I like to marry a frosty, austere line to a lush, tropical palette. I alternate gleaming mosaic tiles and jewel inlays with large flat patterns and monochrome shapes. I do not with to pursue irony or sentimentality. Rather, I want to capture fleeting moments and make them shimmer.
